X, the social media platform now owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is making significant changes to how it pays influencers and creators by phasing out its Revenue Sharing program and introducing Original Content Rewards. The new program, set to launch on September 8, will require participants to subscribe to X’s Premium tiers and meet specific follower count and impressions thresholds. Emphasizing originality, X will recognize original reporting, analysis, photos and videos, memes, and graphics created by the poster.
This move by X follows previous efforts to reform its Revenue Sharing program, including reducing payments to aggregators and clickbait accounts. The company aims to shift the focus of creators towards producing unique and original content rather than solely maximizing payouts. Allegra Jacchia of X highlighted the need to start fresh and build a program designed from day one to reward originality, with plans to further refine the program over time.
